2008 AOSA/SCST Statistics Workshop
June 7th, 1:00am-5:00pm

Applications of Experimental Design, Data Analysis, and Tolerances in Seed Testing
The workshop will cover the following topics:

Quick overview of the principles of experimental design

  • Objective(s) of an experiment,
  • Experimental unit and treatments, choice of treatments,
  • Experimental error and error control,
  • Replication and its function, randomization.

Practical examples of experimental designs

  • Completely randomized design (CRD): Randomization & layout;
  • Randomized complete block design (RCBD): Randomization & layout;
  • Factorial design: Randomization & layout.

Data Analysis

  • Analysis of variance (ANOVA); and
  • Comparison of treatment means, e.g., Least significant difference (LSD)

Examples of using statistical packages in analyzing data.

Tolerances

  • What is tolerance?
  • When to use it?
  • How to use tolerances for purity tests, noxious weed seeds, germination, TZ, endophyte, and moisture?

What to bring to the workshop?

  • Your copy of the AOSA Rules,
  • Papers and pencil, and
  • Any actual experiment you want to design or analyze.
