AOSA/SCST  TZ Workshop  Schedule

Workshop Objective:
To describe and have meaningful, solution-oriented discussions about some of today’s native seed TZ problems.   (Participants should have at least some introductory knowledge about the TZ test.)

Schedule:
7:30 Transport to offsite classrooms

Introduction (large group session):
8:00-8:45    Brent Turnipseed  “TZ Issues Today: with emphasis on native species

After the Introductory lecture, the group will be divided into two smaller groups.

Morning: Round tables 1 and 2
9:00-10:15  session 1
10:15-10:30  break and rotate
10:30-11:15  session 2
11:15-12:30  Lunch break

Afternoon:  Round tables 3 and 4 and large group discussion
12:30-1:45  session 3
1:45-2:00  break and rotate
2:00-3:15  session 4
3:30-4:00 Large group discussion about seed analyst training and credibility.

Round table topics, species and moderators:
1. Pure seed determination and effects on TZ:  Sarah Dammen, Kari Fiedler
species: Artemisia, Kraschenninnikovia, and others.
2. TZ of immature seeds: Richard Agnew
species:  Bromus, Elymus, Bassia, Bouteloua, and others
3. Artifacts:  Victor Vankus
species: Rhus, Prunus, and others
4. Evaluation odds and ends: Cindy Finneseth
species: Hypericum, Juncus, Elymus, Geranium, Artemisia, and others

Round table discussions will start with examination of materials and photos.  Participants will be asked to discuss suggestions and solutions regarding the issues.

Large group discussion
Seed analyst training/credibility:  Ethan Waltermire
Topics: education of non- seed analysts,  continuing-education of seed analysts, creation of a separate formalized credential for analysts who perform TZ tests.
